On Friday, February 23, over 550 kids from 30+ schools in the greater Toronto area gathered at Variety Village to participate in the 36th annual Lieutenant Governor Games. The event was presided over by the Honourable Edith Dumont, Ontario’s newest Lieutenant Governor, marking Her Honour inaugural year as the host of the Games. Tom Brown, with a fifteen-year tenure as the emcee of the Games, joined Her Honour, adding energy and fostering competitive spirit among the participants.
Participants came together to explore both cooperative and competitive games through a collaborative effort between Variety Village, local inclusive program providers, and affiliated sport organizations such as Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto FC, TFH Canada, The National Ballet of Canada, Special Olympics Ontario, Parasport Ontario, Young Choung Taekwondo Academy – Variety Ontario, Rock Solid Productions Inc., First Tee, Golf Canada and Bust a Move Dance .
During the closing ceremony, Lieutenant Governor Edith Dumont presented over 560 participation medals to the deserving participants, recognizing their outstanding efforts and achievements.
