VOLT HOCKEY CANADA MAKES HOCKEY FANS ACROSS THE NATION PROUD AS THEY CLAIM SILVER AT THE VOLT HOCKEY WORLD CUP

Toronto, Ont. – Last week 14 athletes from Canada and their families got onto planes and made the long journey to Stockholm airport. Upon arrival they took a team bus to the city of Gavle, Sweden where they spent 5 days competing in their first VOLT Hockey Canada World Cup.

The road to the 2022 VOLT World Cup has been a long one. After launching in 2016, VOLT Hockey Canada experienced its hardships. The cost of equipment and a number of pandemic related setbacks would not deter the ambitious athletes and supporters of the sport.

To see where it has come from then has been truly special. Finally our players got to embark in Sweden on the highest stage.

Our team had tempered expectations–to quote our very own VOLT Hockey player, Zach Rayment:
“We’re going to get our butts kicked.”

But in actuality, they held their own and did quite well!

Team Ontario Canada took the silver medal in Division 2, defeating Team Alberta Canada in an All-Canadian, and All-Variety battle 8-4!

They came away with two wins against Team USA Boston (5-1) and KF Heros Gavle (3-0) and two losses against Rhinos (7-2) and Lillestrom (4-1) on the first day of the VOLT Hockey World Cup.

Day two, we defeated KF Heros 2 (4-3) and then the eventual silver medal victory against Team Alberta Canada (8-4).

It was incredible to come home with some hardware, but most importantly this is an experience our VOLT Hockey team will never forget. After practicing and playing locally for years, for our team to get a chance to compete on the international stage, truly was a dream come true.

Thank you to the VOLT Hockey World Cup organizers and the many coaches and players who visited us from Denmark for helping us get to this stage, we couldn’t have done it without your visits. Hopefully it was the first trip of many playing this rapidly growing sport.
